The Metal Finishing Associations of Southern and Northern California met November 18th and 19th, respectively, for presentations on recent advocacy issues impacting the surface finishing industry. Jerry Desmond with Desmond & Desmond LLC, Sacramento, the California advocate for the Metal Finishing Associations of California, and Jeff Hannapel of The Policy Group on behalf of NASF, provided members with valuable insight to many ongoing and potential advocacy matters affecting the industry. The 2015 Metal Finishers of both Southern and Northern California Fall Outing was held last weekend at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa in Monterey, California. The weekend proved to be a great success with a great crowd, numerous networking sessions with key industry leaders, and evenings full of entertainment. Special guests during the event were members of the NASF Board of Directors who conducted their regularly scheduled board meeting at the Fall Outing. The Metal Finishing Association of Southern California (MFASC) recently honored former Burbank Mayor and owner of Glendale-based Automation Plating Corporation, Bill Wiggins, with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award during their annual Fall Outing on October 11th. This is the 7th year the MFASC has held their Annual Fall Outing. Attracting nearly one hundred leaders from state and national surface finishing organizations, the event includes 3 days of board meetings, valuable networking opportunities and recognition. Non-MFASC member, Highland Plating Company in Hollywood experienced a tragic fire on Sunday morning, causing an estimated $1.8 million in building damages. Luckily, no damage to surrounding businesses was reported. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported no Hazmat efforts took place requiring evacuations during the fire, as no contaminants were identified in the air or surrounding storm drains. Local agencies are working to assess and private efforts will be made to clean up the area.
The Metal Finishers Association of Southern California (MFASC) has announced Mr. Jerry Wahlin as recipient of the Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Ray Lucas Celebrates Lifetime Achievement Award with his family Ray Lucas, President of Valley Chrome Plating, has received the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Metal Finishers of Southern California. The annual award is presented to highly respected professionals in the finishing industry who continuously promote Best Practices as well as industry advocacy.
